Gianfranco Rosi, Director/Producer/DP/Sound

Gianfranco Rosi, born in Eritrea, with Italian and American nationality, graduated from NYU. His work includes BOATMAN, shot on the banks of the Ganges, (Sundance, Locarno, Toronto), the short “Afterwords” (Venice), BELOW SEA LEVEL (Best Film, Horizons-Venice, Doc/It, Grand Prix, the Prix des Jeunes al Cinéma du Réel, Best Film-One World Film Festival, Vittorio De Seta Prize at Bif&st, Nominee -Best Documentary - European Film Awards). Additional work includes EL SICARIO-ROOM 164 (Fipresci Award-Venice, Doc/It prize for Best Documentary of the Year, Best Film-DocLisboa and Doc Aviv) and 2013 Venice Golden Lion winner SACRA GRA, the first time a documentary was given that honor. Rosi won the Golden Bear at Berlin with FIRE AT SEA, about the migrant crisis on the island of Lampedusa, as well as a Nastra d’Argento, two David of Donatello Award nominations, a European Film Award and a nomination for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards.
