We invite storytellers attending Getting Real to connect to their inner performers and take part in an interactive performance of the DISCO network’s “Declaration of Independence,” drawn from verbatim interviews with filmmakers from all over the world describing the significance of independent documentaries to their lives, to culture, society, and democracy. Together we will speak and sing their words and add our own to create a living manifesto for the support of independent documentary film.
Over the past year, the DISCO network (Doc Society, Ambulante, AFLAMUNA, DocsMX, DOCSP, Docubox, In-Docs) initiated the Independence Project as an effort to co-construct a shared definition of an independent documentary that centers the global community of makers and their allies to clearly describe our unique contribution to culture and society, and to create a manifesto and directly demand the support we need from distributors.
There is no late seating for this event.
